A majority of Wushu and Tai Chi coaches in Australia have been led to believe that their businesses and careers are dependent on being accredited by the NSO for Wushu. The latest registered entities were the Australian Kung Fu Wushu Federation (AKWF) and Kung Fu Wushu Australia (KWA)). This has been under the framework of the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) launched in 1979 by the Australian Coaching Council. The NCAS was supposed “to collate and standardise the existing knowledge base on coaching and provide a platform for National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) to develop courses and accreditation criteria that service

In response to the request, the ASC released some related documents but declined access to others. The Wushu Council then applied for a review by the

Norman Chong from Universal Tai Chi Academy said: “Participants were very excited about what they learned and experienced about Tai Chi Push Hands! Something they had never learned before. The Six theories of Push Hands are some of the subtle concepts that were introduced for the first time in Australia, probably not very much in China itself. Because this is the result of Master Ji’s more than forty years of research together with his learning from his masters.” The similar seminars

All Tai Chi, Qigong and Wushu instructors that are members of our state associations can enjoy our comprehensive yet affordable public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Please note that, unlike some other bodies, the Wushu Council Australia does not make this particular insurance a compulsory element of the membership of the State Associations. We believe all instructors should have an insurance but they have the right to choose the most suitable for their needs options. We also worked very hard to provide an opportunity for all practitioners and students to have access to personal accident insurance. For enquiries please write

Recently, ASADA (Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority) contacted Wushu Council seeking our assistance in warning our athletes about prohibited substance Higenamine, following a flood of positive tests stemming from popular dietary supplements. In just over a year, 13 Australian athletes from nine different sports have tested positive to Higenamine, which is prohibited both in and out of competition. This is in spite of a warning issued by ASADA in November 2016. Higenamine is often listed on the ingredient label of the supplements, however this is not always the case. As such, ASADA is reiterating its warning around the risk of supplements,
